Ramon ten Tije, CEO of Flexado, founded his company in 2010 from clear motives.

“Entrepreneurs, especially in the start-up phase, want flexibility. To offer them that freedom, I specialised in flexible office services.”

In those 13 years, Flexado has grown into a platform through which we facilitate success.
For both clients and the close-knit club of employees.
How? This is Ramon’s story.

Why did you start Flexado?

I was working in corporate real estate. There, I heard from many entrepreneurs that a permanent office is often far from the solution. Especially in the start-up phase, they want flexibility. That’s where I came in, because I knew: “I can offer that flexibility”. Seeing entrepreneurs being able to launch their businesses as a result is fantastic. We now have a loyal fan base of thousands of customers and we are still growing monthly. This includes customers who eventually outgrew their flexible solution and moved to a permanent office space with us. The fact that we can facilitate this development is, of course, great!

Have you had any luck at all?

In the past three or four years, time has certainly been on our side. In the sense that working from home or using flexible workplaces has become an integral part of our working life. In addition, facilities are getting better and better. Think of the internet and business location partners, who have branches even in the smallest villages.
It’s a nice confirmation that, what I stand for ever since I started my company, is continuing to develop.

What does growth mean to you?

For me, growth means consistent further development. With a small, close-knit team and each with his or hers specialisation. We operate worldwide and are the market leader in the Netherlands and Belgium. We are also growing fast in the UK, Scandinavia and Germany. Flexado is a platform for the success of our customers, but also for the success of our team.

Why are you ‘the world’s best boss’?

Well I don’t know if I am, but we work together transparently and are well matched. I want to encourage an entrepreneurial attitude. I give everyone space to make mistakes and learn from them. And we are allowed to be a bit rebellious. I love the fact that everyone really has their own character!

What does leadership mean to you?

I want to be able to take good care of my employees in every respect, because I consider our team my family and I am proud of that. I can put the pressure on well, but that’s how we peak.
Because I realise all too well that I am also partly responsible for everyone’s financial situation.

OK, you are now 13 years on the road: name three valuable lessons?

1. Keep it simple. No matter how complex your business operations are on the back end, you need to be able to explain your service simply to the customer. Show them how easy it is to use and what benefits it offers them.
2. Work with joy. I’m in business 24/7 and I know what I’m doing it for.
I get an awful lot of happiness from that.
3. Do business with passion and fire. Being an entrepreneur also means taking knocks. If you can’t say “Let’s do it!” every morning with fresh courage, you won’t last.

Do you have any golden tips for fellow entrepreneurs?

Dare to make your own choices.
I dare to take risks and I am stubborn, because even if it turns out that I made the wrong choice, I will still be wiser.

If a star were to fall right now, what wish would you make?

Without a doubt, my wish is that my family may remain happy and healthy. I realise very well that we are blessed in that. I am truly a proud father, my children’s hero, that goes above and beyond.

“As an entrepreneur, I have the freedom to align my work with my family. This is my ultimate work happiness.”
